Upland White Aster

Oligoneuron album

Other names:

prairie goldenrod

From the Connecticut Botanical Society

The classification of upland white aster has been controversial. It has been classified variously as an aster, a goldenrod, and in its own genus. Its current classification in the genus Oligoneuron places it with stiff goldenrod and a few other yellow-flowered plants.

Prairie flat-top-goldenrod is 12-18 in. tall with flat-topped flower heads bearing white ray petals and yellow disk centers. The basal, as well as stem foliage, is shiny dark-green, narrow and willow-like.
