Trifolium aureum

Family: Pea (Fabaceae)

Height: 8-18 inches
Flower size: tiny flowers in flowerheads 1/4 to 1/2 inch across
Flower color: yellow
Flowering time: June to September

A smooth upright 4-20" plant. Some 20-40 yellow pea-like flowers are in 1/2-1" densely packed oval heads. The leaves are stalked and each of the 3 sessile leaflets is very fine-toothed. Blooms May-September in waste areas, roadsides.

The heads turn brown with age and resemble hops, accounting for the name.
