Comments: I don't see how, but the common name (as well as the scientific name "mimulus" which means "to mimic") derives from the resemblance of the flower to a monkey's face. Again, I just don't get it!

 

R.B. note: There are two species of monkey flower, one is the square-stemmed (M. ringens) and the other is the winged (M. alatus). Ringens has stalkless leaves and a long flower stalk.  Alatus leaves have short stems and short flower stalks.
