The leaflets are anywhere from 5 to 15 and are toothed. These leaflets are similar in shape, however, the diminish in size towards the base of the leaf where small leaf segments are often near and on the stalk. The leaflets of this plant are smooth on the underside with some hairs along the mid-vein of the leaf. The flowers are found at the top of the plant in long, drooping spikes or racemes. Flowers are tiny - about 1/2 inch wide - and are yellow. When the fruit forms, it is covered with bristles which stick to the clothing. The plant can reach a height of 6 feet, blooms in summer and early fall. It is a member of the rose family.
