Calystegia spithamaea Pursh ssp. purshiana (Wherry) Brummitt
A short, erect, densely pubescent, perennial herb with simple alternate leaves and white flowers. Stems 1-4 dm (4-16 in.) high arise from spreading rhizomes forming colonies. The plant is densely velvety-hairy. Leaves are oblong- or elliptic-arrowshaped with distinct basal lobes, blades 3-6 cm (1.2-2.4 in.) long. The funnelform flower is 4-7 cm (1.6-2.8 in.) long. Similar to the typical variety, but differing in the dense pubescence and cordate leaf base.
