A handsome plant, this is a popular garden ornament, and the only truly shrubby cinquefoil--
Shrubby cinquefoil, Tundra rose, Pentaphylloides floribunda [Potentilla fruticosa ssp. floribunda] (Rose Family), is a freely branched erect to spreading shrub; young branchlets are densely leafy and silky. The YELLOW flowers are buttercup-like. The dry flaky bark is used as tinder by some natives. It is used medicinally like Labrador tea (Ledum palustre).
Wet to dry; tundra, heath, muskeg, scree; higher elevations in the mountains to at least 1500M. Check out the highway areas near the pass.
Cultivated varieties can be found as ornamental shrubs all around the town of Skagway.
