Chrysogonum virginianum
Five notched yellow petals with 5 green bracts barely visible between them has the look of a cinquefoil about it. However, the leaves are not divided into fives as are the cinquefoil. The leaves are long-stalked and sort of oval in shape with a crinkled effect along the edges. This is a low growing plant about 5 - 10 inches tall. Seen along the Bull Pasture River in the gorge in rich woods in the spring, but should bloom on into early summer. This is a very distinctive plant when seen from the perspective of the forest floor.
