Shale Barren Hawkweed or Greene's Hawkweed
Hieraceum trailii Greene
The plant has a basal tuft of leaves and a tall stem bearing heads of yellow flowers. Leaves spatulate to obovate, have long hairs especially beneath, not purple-veined. Stem naked or with 1-2 leaves near base. The similar H. venosum (Rattlesnake Weed) has leaves with reddish-purple main veins above.
