Iris verna
Dwarf or Violet Irises appear locally from late March to early May. They are found mostly in dry sandy soils along roadsides and open edges of pine woodlands. Oftentimes they grow in association with colonies of birdfoot violets.
Plants are about six inches high.
A cluster of the Violet Dwarf Iris blooming along the wildlife management road on Jack Mt. True to type they proliferated on the road banks and along the wooded slopes of the ravine leading down to Aqua Cave.
