Identification: Flowers yellow, small, with 5 petals, and nearly sessile to the stem. Stem heavily branched, wiry, with a slight blue-green tint. Leaves minute, nearly spinelike. Plant 4 to 20 inches in height.
Distribution: Throughout eastern North America.
Habitat: Pineweed is found on very dry, poor soils.
Flowering period: June to October.
Similar Species: The minute leaves and wiry, highly branched stems easily identify this species.
