Identification: Plants parasitic on the living or dead roots of other plants, lacking chlorophyll. Stem fleshy, red, pubescent. Flowers red with yellow-white tips. Flowers arising in clusters at the end of the stems. Leaves reduced to scattered scales along the stem. Plant 3 to 10 inches in height.
Distribution: Throughout most of North America.
Habitat: Pinesap is found on woodland floors among the leaf litter and leaf mold.
Flowering period: June to October
