Plant: erect annual/perennial, 5"-10" tall forb, thinly hairy; taprooted
Flower: cream, 4-parted, 1/16" long, 2 lobed, leaf-like bracts below the flowers protruding and hairy, 4 stamens barely protruding; inflorescence a 1"-2 1/3" wooly, cylindrical spike; blooms June-Nov.
Leaf: mostly linear to 7" long, stalks flaring and papery at the sheathing base
Habitat: dry; disturbed sites
