Plants often reach a foot in height atop a bare purplish stem. The five to six leaves in flowering plants point upwards. Bloom time is May unless an early spring brings them out in April. Habitat is dry oak-pine woods just like the pink lady's slipper. Where this plant was located, it was in company with many pink lady's slippers.
