Identification: Flowers white, nodding, with 5 petals. Petals without greenish veins. Pistil long and curved. Flowers arranged in a terminal spike. Leaves in a basal rosette. Leaves large (1.0 to 3 inches in length), rounded with the apex rounded, not pointed. Petiole length greater than the length of the leaf body. Plant 6 to 15 inches in height.
Distribution: Across Canada and southward in the mountains to Georgia. Also native of Europe and northern Asia.
Habitat: Round-leaved Pyrola is round in bogs and wet woods.
Flowering period: June to August.
Similar Species: Round-leaved Pyrola is most likely to be confused with Shinleaf. The leaf petioles of Shinleaf are shorter or equal in length to the leaf body and the leaf body is more rectangular than round. The flowers of Shinleaf are greenish-white with green veins in the petals, not white.
