Packera obovata
The yellow flower is the ragwort. This member of the large Senecio family of plants, along with one other of its litter mates, grows in woods and rocky banks and not often found along streams as the other ragworts are. This family has a long history of use by people, but this is not one of those plants. The yellow flower heads are on long, 4-5 inch stalks with rays anywhere from 8 to 15 long and narrow. Flower head grow in a branched terminal cluster. As the name suggests this plant has rounded basal leaves that are sort of egg-shaped with very blunt ends. Plants can reach a height 2 feet. Bloom time is in spring and early summer.
