Lesser Stitchwort
Stellaria graminea

Identification: Flowers white with 5 petals, each petals deeply slit (about two-thirds of its length) and appearing as 10 petals. Flowers arising from the top of the plant. Leaves elongate, narrow, with smooth outer margins. Plant 12 to 20 inches in height.
Distribution: Throughout eastern North America. Also occurs in the Pacific Northwest to California and the north-central United States. The species is also native to Europe and northern Asia.
Habitat: Lesser Stitchwort is found in grassy fields and along roadsides.
Flowering period: May to October.
Similar Species: Lesser Stitchwort is similar to Long-leaved Stitchwort. Lesser Stitchwort has fewer flowers and the flowers arise from not only from the top of the stem, but from leaf axils further down the stem. Field Chickweed has its petals divided only one quarter to one half of their length.
