Dwarf St. Johnswort

Identification: Flowers orange-yellow, small (0.25 inches in diameter), with 5 petals and between 5 and 12 stamens. Flowers arranged on a series of apical branches in small groups. Stem branched. Leaves broad, ovate, rounded at the apex, although tapering somewhat. Plant 1 to 3 feet in height.
Distribution: Throughout eastern North America.
Habitat: Dwarf St. Johnswort is found in a variety of low, wet habitats.
Similar Species: The small orange-yellow flowers with 12 or fewer stamens and the the broad, ovate leaves will usually identify this species. Spotted St. Johnswort has larger flowers (about 0.5 inches in diameter) and the flowers are spotted or streaked with black on the undersides of the petals.
