Woodland Sunflower

Identification: Flowers golden yellow and disk yellow or yellow-brown. Stem smooth. Leaves opposite, thick, rough above and hairy below. Outer margin finely toothed, more heavily toward the base than the apex. Base of leaf ending abruptly with a distinct, very short leaf petiole. Plant 2 to 6.5 feet in height.
Distribution: Throughout eastern North America.
Habitat: Woodland Sunflower is typically found in dry, open woods, and dry thickets.
Flowering period: July to October.
