Helianthus giganteus

Identification: Flowers large with ray florets golden yellow and disk yellow to dull yellow. Stem rough and slightly tinged with red. Leaves elongate, lanceolate, attached directly to the stem or with a very short leaf petiole. Outer leaf margin finely toothed. Upper leaves alternate, but lower leaves may be opposite in pairs. Plant 4 to 10 feet in height.
Distribution: Throughout most of eastern North America.
Habitat: Tall Sunflower is most commonly found in swampy soils or wet woodlands.
Flowering period: August to October.
