Whorled Rosinweed

Identification: Flowers yellow with a yellow-green disk. Flower head supported with a series of large, green bracts. Stem smooth, sometimes whitish. Leaves in whorls of three, with leaf petioles short, but present, with weak marginal teeth or nearly smooth. Plant 3 to 9 feet in height.
Distribution: Indiana and New York, southward to Georgia and Louisiana.
Habitat: Unlike most species of Silphium, Whorled Rosinweed is a species of open woods and thickets.
Flowering period: July to September.
