Identification: Flowers with yellow ray florets and yellow-green disk florets. Ray florets few in number (2 to 8) and drooping strongly downward. Disk florets large, pimplelike. Leaves alternate on stem, elongate, tapering at both ends. Base of leaf projects as weak wings on the stem. Plant 3 to 8 feet in height.
Distribution: Throughout most of eastern North America.
Habitat: Wingstem is found along stream and river banks, the margins of woods, and in thickets.
Flowering period: August to September.
