Identification: Plant short (4 to 8 inches in height). Flowers white with an average of 5 (4-9) "petals" ("petals" are actually sepals). Leaves divided into 3 or 5 leaflets, most commonly 5. Fruits globular with hooked apices. Plant 4 to 8 inches in height.
Distribution: Throughout most of eastern North America.
Habitat: Wood Anemone is typically found in wet forest.
Flowering period: April - June.
Similar Species: Wood Anemone is most likely to be confused with Mountain Anemone. Mountain Anemone is a larger plant (up to 16 inches in height) and the leaves are usually divided into 3 parts, not 5.
