Woodland Lettuce

Identification: Flowers blue and arranged in a broad, open panicle. Fine hairs representing the calyx of the florets (pappus) white. Leaves irregular, usually deeply cut into roughly diamond-shaped segments, although sometimes leaf nearly uncut and linear. Plant 3 to 7 feet tall.
Distribution: Throughout most of the eastern United States and the Plains States.
Habitat: Woodland Lettuce is found in wet woods and thickets.
Flowering period: July to October.
