Alien: Introduced from Europe.
Identification: Flowers large, yellow with elongate floral bracts supporting the ray florets. Flowers close by mid-day. Seeds and associated plumes form a globe. Stem tough, not hollow, with milky sap. Leaves grasslike and embracing the stem. Plant arises from a rhizome. Plant 1 to 3 feet in height.
Distribution: Throughout most of North America, but nearly absent from the southeastern United States.
Habitat: Yellow Goat's Beard is a weed most commonly found in vacant lots, roadsides, fields, and other recently disturbed habitats.
