Identification: Flowers yellow-green occurring singly or in a pair at the tip of the stalk. Flower petals flare outward. Berries red. Plant with multiple branches. Branches zig-zag in appearance with spade-shaped leaves alternating along the stems. Entire plant densely hairy. Plant 18 to 30 inches in height.
Distribution: New York in the north to Tennessee and Kentucky in the west, southward to Georgia and Alabama.
abitat: Yellow Mandarin is found in forest habitats.
Flowering period: May to June.
Similar Species: The apically borne single or paired flowers with flarred petals and the hairy stems and leaves are distinctive for Yellow Mandarin. Most similar species have flowers arising from the along the length of the stem. Species of the genus Uvularia are smaller plants and the flowers are distinctly yellow.
