Identification: Flowers yellow, starlike with 6 pointed petals. Leaves elongate, grasslike, arising from the base of the plant and separate from the flowering stalks. Leaves hairy, hairs long, almost stringlike. Plant arising from a small bulb. Plant 3 to 8 inches in height.
Distribution: Southern Canada and southward throughout most of the eastern United States. Westward in the Great Plains states and also in Colorado and New Mexico.
Habitat: Yellow Star Grass is found in meadows and open woods.
Flowering period: May to August.
