Yellow Pimpernel

Identification: Flowers yellow, arranged in open, sparse umbels. Stem smooth, slender, often with a whitish, waxy bloom. Leaves doubly compound divided into 3 to 5 leaflets with each leaflet itself irregularly divided. Leaflets ovate with smooth outer margins. Plant 1 to 3 feet in height.
Distribution: Throughout most of eastern North America, Texas, and the Great Plains.
Habitat: Yellow Pimpernel is usually found in dry woods and along rocky hillsides.
Flowering period: May to July.
Similar Species: The compound leaves with smooth, untoothed leaflets are a distinctive feature of Yellow Pimpernel.
